On Tuesday, Senator Ted Cruz launched a vehement tirade of criticism against Secretary of Homeland Security Alejandro Mayorkas, accusing him of lacking moral integrity and not upholding his duties. The senator’s comments were primarily focused on the chaotic situation at the border, with Cruz even asserting that Mayorkas was permitting underage children to be assaulted.
Cruz blasted Mayorkas, “If you had integrity, you would resign. You’re willing to let children be r*ped. This is a crisis. It’s a disgrace.”
“What the Senator said was revolting. I’m not going to address it,” Mayorkas replied.
“Your refusal to do your job is revolting,” Cruz responded.
Cruz persisted in questioning Mayorkas, inquiring how many killers had been let into the US. To which Mayorkas responded that he did not have knowledge of such incidents.
“How many murderers have you released into America?”
“I’m not aware of any murderers,” Mayorkas replied.
“So, you don’t know,” Cruz said.
In 2014, Mayorkas was appointed by Barack Obama as the Deputy Secretary of Homeland Security and held that post until 2016. Recently in 2021, Joe Biden nominated him to serve as Secretary of Homeland Security which he accepted and was confirmed by the Senate shortly after. As Secretary, his work includes overseeing national security matters such as border protection, cybersecurity protocols enforcement, and responding to disasters at a federal level.
