Joe Biden’s speeches seem to be a paradox of his true intentions. His consistent verbal gaffes and inaccuracies have become a regular spectacle, with the President himself recently conceding that he might not be the most reliable source of information. Yet, these verbal blunders seem to conveniently vanish when the White House publishes official transcripts of his addresses.
Unsurprisingly, a report from the Daily Caller discloses that Biden’s speeches and their transcripts have undergone “corrections” 148 times in this year alone. The publication scrutinized Biden’s public comments since the dawn of 2024 and discovered that the communications team has had to rectify them no less than 148 times.
“The White House releases an official transcript anytime the president gives a speech or takes questions. Communications staff frequently correct, add to or alter Biden’s official remarks in order to either bring them into compliance with official White House policy or, in some cases, reality, a Daily Caller analysis showed. In several cases, official statements had to be changed to convey the exact opposite of what Biden actually said.”
This disturbing trend of corrections averages more than one “correction” per address or statement. At times it involves alterations to names or dates; other times it modifies verbs and entirely transforms “the meaning of the president’s statement entirely,” as per the report.
For example, there was an instance where he stated, “We must be honest: The threat to democracy must be defended,” when he intended to say “…must be defeated.” Just last week, he read aloud a teleprompter instruction “Pause”, which was subsequently labeled as “inaudible” in the transcript.
These episodes of ‘correcting’ Biden’s speeches are not just worrying but also underline a significant problem. It’s about time that the administration owns up to its mistakes and ceases to ‘conceal’ these errors. In a democratic society, it is crucial for citizens to have faith in their leaders, and this continual manipulation of facts does nothing but undermine that trust.
