In an apparent bid to suppress the voice of former President Donald Trump, the Secret Service has reportedly advised him against holding large outdoor rallies. This shocking development comes in the wake of an attempted assassination on the former president during a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania. The Democrats’ tacit support of this move is yet another example of their attempts to silence conservative voices.
As reported by The Washington Post, “Secret Service agents have reportedly relayed concerns to Trump’s campaign advisors over the possibility of holding large outdoor rallies in the future.”
This advice from the Secret Service seems more like a thinly veiled attempt at restricting Trump’s reach among his supporters than a genuine concern for his safety. Instead of improving their security measures and ensuring robust protection for all political figures, they seem to be resorting to tactics that limit freedom of speech and expression.
The former president’s campaign is considering shifting to large indoor venues like sports arenas. However, these venues are not only more expensive but also do not accommodate as many people as outdoor events do. According to one anonymous campaign official cited by The Washington Post, “Obviously with an indoor venue, you have a capacity. It doesn’t pack the same punch.”
Despite this setback, Trump’s advisers remain undeterred and earlier this year notified the Secret Service that they plan on hosting large events regularly. They demanded additional protection and assets for adequate security – requests which were inexplicably rejected by the Secret Service.
The reaction from Republicans has been understandably critical. James Comer (R-Ky.), Chairman House Oversight and Accountability Committee told Fox News that it would be unfortunate if Trump was forced to stop holding outdoor rallies due to pressure from the Secret Service.
These events are a testament to the lengths to which Democrats will go in their efforts to stifle conservative voices. It is clear that the fight for freedom of speech and expression is far from over.
