Once again, the Democrats are turning a blind eye to the real issues plaguing our communities. Democratic Colorado Gov. Jared Polis is dismissing the alarming reports that a dangerous Venezuelan gang has seized control of an apartment complex in Aurora, Colorado. This blatant disregard for community safety is nothing short of appalling.
“The Governor has already let the mayor know that the state is ready to support the local police department with assistance from state troopers and the Colorado Bureau of Investigation if needed,” Polis representative Shelby Wieman said last week, according to the New York Post
Instead of taking immediate action to protect residents, Polis’s administration is downplaying the severity of the situation, suggesting it’s merely a figment of imagination. This dismissive attitude is not only irresponsible but also dangerous. Council member Danielle Jurinsky, who has been on the front lines helping evacuate terrified residents, rightly questions this narrative.
“My question back to the governor is, is this also a figment of the Romeros’ imagination? And the other resident that I helped to get out of there, and the other residents that I am going to continue to get out of there?” she said, referring to a family she helped to flee, according to Fox News.
Jurinsky’s frustration is palpable as she highlights how some officials prioritize public image over truth and safety. The grim reality faced by residents living in constant fear behind multiple deadbolts cannot be ignored. It’s time for real leadership that puts community safety first, not political gamesmanship.
Aurora Mayor Mike Coffman said Thursday some apartment complexes have come under the control of gangs in what he called “a nightmare situation,” according to the Denver Gazette.
Mayor Coffman acknowledges the gravity of the situation and is working aggressively to regain control. Unlike Gov. Polis, Coffman understands that dismissing these threats only exacerbates them. It’s time for Democrats like Polis to stop ignoring these pressing issues and start protecting their citizens.
