As a patriot, the recent decision made by Joe Biden to prohibit the display of large American flags at public events has provoked outrage in me. The flag stands for our nation’s solidarity and courage, and it is heartbreaking to witness its removal from our military.
This ruling was instated in a memorandum distributed to service members on earlier this year declaring that enormous presentations of the American banner at athletic competitions are no longer appropriate, among others. This move has been harshly criticized by WE THE PEOPLE who perceive this as an attack on our country’s values.
The American flag symbolizes the many sacrifices made by brave men and women who fought for our freedom and democracy. It is a token of optimism, valor, and loyalty that unifies us as Americans. To forbid its presentation is to reject the very soul of what makes us proud citizens of this country.
“I encourage public affairs officers to work with sponsors of community events to develop other ways to showcase the patriotism and capabilities of our military that comply with DoD policy,” Chris Meagher, assistant to the secretary of defense for public affairs, wrote in the letter.
The memo drew criticism from some commenters on the popular Amn/NCO/SNCO Facebook page, where it was posted.
“If we’re following flag code for the reasoning for this stupidity, the objects used for these events aren’t technically flags, they’re banners,” one commenter wrote Friday.
What’s more, this decision sends a message to our adversaries that we are feeble and divided. It weakens the morale of our troops who have devoted their lives to serving this nation. It also dishonors the families of those who have lost relatives in service to our country.
It is not just about showcasing a flag; it’s about honoring those who have served and sacrificed for our country. Our military should be able to flaunt the American flag without restraint, particularly during major events where they embody our nation’s unity and strength.
This subject has arisen out of nowhere, other than to cultivate an anti-American populace. The American flag stands for everything that makes us proud citizens of this nation, and we must never forget its significance in paying homage to those who have served and sacrificed for us. We must come together as Americans and call for this decision to be reversed immediately.
