Last month, two members of the so-called “Squad” – Ilhan Omar (D-MN) and Pramila Jayapal (D-WA) – made a trip to Communist Cuba to meet with regime officials. They were also accompanied by a representative from Congresswoman Barbara Lee’s office (D-CA). The question that arises is whether the White House sanctioned this trip.
“Representatives Jayapal and Omar traveled to Cuba last week, where they met with people from across Cuban civil society and government officials to discuss human rights and the U.S.-Cuba bilateral relationship.” Statement from the “Progressive Caucus” to the Miami Herald
However, there are some issues with this statement. Firstly, their visit coincided with that of Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov. Secondly, neither the regime nor the “civil society” issued a statement acknowledging their presence. This raises questions about their real intentions and whether this could violate the Logan Act.

“Any citizen of the United States, wherever he may be, who, without authority of the United States, directly or indirectly commences or carries on any correspondence or intercourse with any foreign government or any officer or agent thereof, with intent to influence the measures or conduct of any foreign government or of any officer or agent thereof, in relation to any disputes or controversies with the United States, or to defeat the measures of the United States, shall be fined under this title or imprisoned not more than three years, or both.” Excerpt from the Logan Act
Could it be that this meeting was planned and allowed by the leftist Biden White House? It certainly raises eyebrows.
Both Lavrov and the Progressive Caucus have called for Communist Cuba to be removed from the list of state sponsors of terrorism. However, Cuba has close ties with FARC (Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia), a narco-terrorist organization, and its ally ELN (National Liberation Army). Despite a “peace deal” signed with FARC in 2016, significant problems persist.
Communist Cuba has a history of human rights abuses, including the disappearance and murder of thousands of its citizens. It has suppressed every liberty group within its borders and ruined its economy. The elite enjoy all the benefits while the rest get nothing. This is a stark reminder of the deadly nature of communism and socialism, despite how much the left pushes them. Freedom is non-existent in these countries.

“Other civil society groups have faced similar fates. The Ladies in White – an organization bringing together the mothers, daughters, sisters, and wives of political prisoners – faces routine weekly arrests featuring outsized police brutality for attempting to go to Catholic Mass to pray for their families…
The question remains: did the White House sanction this trip for covert “negotiations”, or did these leftists violate the Logan Act?
