It’s quite telling that former South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley’s presidential campaign is drawing significant financial support from those who once backed President Joe Biden. With over 5,200 Biden donors now funding Haley, it raises questions about her appeal to the conservative base and potential impact on the Republican primary landscape.
An in-depth look into Haley’s fundraising efforts, as cited by POLITICO, uncovered that these Biden supporters aren’t just small-time contributors. A striking total of 1,600 donors contributed over half a million dollars in just January. Haley has also garnered 123,000 “large-dollar” donors to her campaign overall, according to her Federal Election Commission (FEC) report filed on February 20th.
“In total, Haley’s campaign raised $11.5 million and spent $13.1 million last month, according to the report. That makes January – the month of the Iowa caucuses and New Hampshire primary – her highest-grossing month so far as she emerged as the sole Republican challenger to [former President Donald] Trump,” POLITICO reported. Despite having less in the bank compared to Trump’s over $30 million, this influx of cash shows Haley’s campaign is picking up steam.
But there’s more. Jack Montgomery from the National Pulse suggested that the continued financial support for Haley’s campaign—even after losing to Trump in Iowa and New Hampshire—might support Trump’s claim that she’s in the race mainly to undermine him before the general election. Haley, who worked as the U.S. ambassador to the United Nations under Trump, seems to be splitting votes that could otherwise consolidate behind a single conservative leader.
Significant contributions also came from Reid Hoffman, LinkedIn founder known for his ties to Jeffrey Epstein’s infamous island. “[My] first priority is to defeat Trump. The GOP primary is the first of two chances to do so,” Hoffman stated in December regarding his support for Haley’s super-PAC. But after her New Hampshire loss, he withdrew support, recognizing Haley’s dwindling chances against Trump.
DARK MONEY also bankrolling Haley’s campaign
The revelation of a connection between Haley’s campaign and a dark money group known for supporting Democratic causes has also stirred controversy. Allegedly, one of Haley’s senior staffers links her to this shady fundraising source.
Trump shone a spotlight on this in a speech, calling out Tyler Clark, Haley’s state director in New Hampshire, for his previous role as a lobbyist for the Sixteen Thirty Fund. “He was a lobbyist for the Sixteen Thirty Fund, which is managed by Arabella Advisors – the largest Democrat dark money network in the country, and considered Public Enemy No. 1. That’s who’s managing her campaign. Does that tell you something, perhaps?” Trump questioned the audience.
Discussions about the nature of Haley’s funding have spread on social media as well. A post from the DeSantis War Room on platform X underscored both the financial and administrative control Democrats appear to have over her campaign.
